About the Artist
Based in Rua Red Arts Centre. Margaret Callan Bergin is a socially engaged Theatre Maker, Children’s Writer and Actress and multi-disciplined Arts in Educator. Margaret ‘s creative skills are wide and always evolving. She includes Visual Arts in Education programmes and strands among her skills which also includes, Shadow Puppetry, audio book recordings and classroom installations.
Margaret has written and performed for RTE Children’s Television and in Theatres, Libraries and Schools for over 30 years. Her stories and plays have been commissioned by RTE Tallaght Youth Theatre Dublin City Public Libraries and Civic Theatre to name a few.
Margaret has worked hand in hand with the school teachers of Dublin creating unique Arts in Education Projects with outstanding results.
Trained with Drumcondra Education Centre & Dublin West Education Centre. On ‘Teachers Artists Partnerships’ as a model. Margaret is a member of Theatre for young Audiences Ireland, The Irish Writers Guild and in 2021 graduated with a University certificate in Visual Arts practice from NCAD.
In 2019 -20 alone (prior to the pandemic )Margaret worked as a teachers partner on 7 schools Residencies and in contact with over 500 students, some of who took part in her Creative Schools projects, others who attended ‘Follow The Yellow Brick Rd’ her story adaptation one woman show for Redline Book Festival. Margaret delivers excellence in the field of children’s Theatre & Arts in Education. She uses multi-disciplined creativity as a vehicle to deliver Confidence Personal Development and Joy to all who participate. She is currently in rehearsal for ‘Wooden Heart’ a new play for children which she has written and will perform in The Civic Theatre and the Redline book festival Oct 2021.
